Baby Showers: The Next Big Thing

Like so many modern celebrations, Baby Showers have arrived in the UK from North America. It’s a real tradition over there and, like High School Proms, Halloween and Black Friday, one of those exciting social events that is catching on big time over here.

The idea is simple but universally appealing. Throw a party for the pregnant mother and her…

OUR DAILY PINS

Most of my mornings, especially the ones which start with the letter M, T, W, F, begin with me getting my son ready for school. I will set out his clothes, prepare his breakfast and his lunch, and sign his agenda. I will then put all that he needs to take back to school in his backpack.
Between the times my son gets up and leaves, I either have the princess too, or I don’t, depending on if she needs extra beauty sleep.  I love the princess, but from the time she wakes up until the time she sleeps, the Powers’ house revolves around her.
This selfish rotation was incredibly annoying this morning. I am fixing breakfast for my son, and miss B walks into the kitchen to ask me to move a chair…huh? What chair? Oh’, that one, my grandmother’s old rocking chair, the one my son was sitting in while playing his guitar last night. So I, STOP what I am doing, and move this chair, because it was so very important that it be moved right then and there.
Once I get her breakfast ready I have a few moments uninterrupted with zero demands, except for the occasional “will you,” which usually is in regards to asking me to tell her brother to do something.
When bubba leaves for school, she really misses him, because I am boring and apparently not very entertaining. The “will you” questions pursue often being, “will you turn the TV,” or “will you get me dressed?”  Sure…I don’t mind getting her dressed, even though we are not going anywhere, and I often spend the day in my pajamas. Why can she not so the same?
What I will not do, I will not change the TV, because I am a habitual GMA viewer, so if I have to watch My Little Ponies, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, and Jake and Neverland Pirates most of the day, please, please, PLEASE, give me my GMA. Most of all this happens before my first cup of coffee, so before anybody goes judging my judgment in how I handle certain situations, have some sympathy.
I just want a cup of coffee before I give into “will you” for anybody, so next time I hear a will you, I am going to answer with a will you?
What will you be doing, or what will you NOT be doing, today…after you have had your coffee?
