Several days ago "J" and I spent a few hours volunteering. We were making a difference while sharing quality time together.  Volunteering is selfless and gets kids away from the mentality that everything is about them. Rather than starting out their lives with a view of entitlement, they are more likely to have a greater understanding of responsibility, compassion,  and tolerance. "J" has  met with people who have different cultural views, values, and economic circumstances.  Find volunteer activities that might appeal to your child.  The benefits are endless.

I agree.  It cannot be stressed enough that we need to live "outside" ourselves.  In other words, we need to reach out to others with kindness, mercy and compassion.  This gift that you are giving to "J" will reap rewards for years and years to come.  Well done!
