What Are Your Favorite Salad Ingredients?

Did you know that this month is National Salad Month? I love, love, love salad and honestly could eat a salad for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Okay, maybe not for breakfast, but there would definitely be some raw vegetables somewhere on my plate.

Why Great Content is Imperative to Any Blog

Today I was on my regular mentoring call and was asked if I have any advice about writing consistent content in the midst of a busy day. We have all struggled with this to be sure. Leaving huge gaps in content is not good for anyone and that includes me. I can, at times, go absent from my blogs to get the wheels churning again. I talked…

The Number One Way to Craft Your Brand

I read a lot of mom blogs. It's inevitable. Owning a site where thousands of mom bloggers convergegives me a keen look at the digital mom space and who's in it. How I Got My Daughters to Adore Vegetables

As a mother of two I have always been adamant about making sure my girls eat and love their vegetables. Now that my daughters are 11 and almost 14 they choose to eat salads and fresh vegetables every day, several times a day. I am extremely grateful for this because I know how…

Summer Sanders: Busy Mom and Member of Team Kellogg's

Most people probably don’t know that the United States is one of the only countries in the world that does not fund its Olympic team save its Paralympic team. I didn’t realize that either until I interviewed swimming legend Summer Sanders this week. Sanders, who won an impressive four medals in the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games…

Women Enterprise at Dunga Beach in Kisumu, Kenya: Commercial Sex Workers #ONEMOMS

If there is one theme we're hearing a lot while we travel around Kenya, it's this: the future of Kenya specifically and Africa in general lies in the hands of women. This morning we met with Lee Anthony Brudvig, the Deputy Chief of Mission for the United States Embassy in Nairobi. He stressed that in order to attain economic growth and a stable food supply, women would be the gatekeepers of Kenyan agriculture. Agriculutral programs also pave a way for economic growth and… Continue

Day 4: Life in the Kenyan Slums for a Single Mom #ONEMOMS

We have driven through and walked through Kenyan slums on this ONE MOMS trip and honestly it has been life changing. It has been life changing not because people are living in abject poverty, but because I understand how people can continue to live in the slums and not question it.

I'm sure that is a hard concept to grasp, but stay with… Continue

Day 3: Hope in the Slums

Today we rode into the slums. Take that in for a moment. If you have been born and bred in the United States or any other developing country it's likely you have never seen poverty like we witnessed today. There were people at every turn, some running around in the mud without any shoes. Trash was everywhere. It almost looked like a sparse landfill. There were no paved roads at all,…

Me, Kenyan Kids, an iPad, and Angry Birds

20110726-061539.jpg

Today when we had a little time to spare before heading to Siaya District Hospital I had a chance to spend time with a few Kenyan children who had made their way to the porch where I was sitting. They had been given ONE armbands and were definitely looking for more goodies and were milling about. I thought how fun would it be to pull out my iPad and show them Angry Birds. Who doesn't… Continue
