I like to eat all types of food. What do you expect? I'm a half Trinidadian, 1/2 Puerto Rican woman who grew up with a Jamaican Stepfather who was a chef. Living in NY I had endless options when it came to food. NY is a Cultural melting pot. I frequented restaurants that served American food, loved Italian food and placed orders often at Chinese restaurants, lol. Man, my mouth is watering just thinking about…

Irish Soda Bread-- Brooklyn Style!

Some years ago, the city of Chicago adopted me.

I grew up in a place where I could see the World Trade Centers from my attic, where Puerto Rican cabbies spoke Yiddish, and where everyone thought Philadelphia was in the Midwest.

But when I moved to Chicago the day after my honeymoon, Sandburg’s “stormy, husky, brawling” city welcomed me with broad shoulders and open arms, and I fell in love with my adoptive city.  Put celery salt on my Vienna Beef, make my pizza like a cheese…

Brazilian Ham Lasagna With Red Meaty and White Cheesy Sauce

A great friend of mine just had a beautiful baby boy, and BOY OH BOY, I know how tough it is to make dinner and take care of a newborn! So, I offered to prepare her favorite meal. She told me that her favorite dish was lasagna, even joking how she must be related to Garfield somehow... "Lasagna...", I said, thinking that I actually haven't had my mom's wonderful lasagna for a long, long time. I think the last time I ate her lasagna was 8 years ago, when she came to visit us to see her new…

You know it's gonna be a good day when you're strolling through the wine aisle at the grocery store on a random…

Chocolate Banana Green Smoothie {5 Ingredients}

Please, feel free to view the original post on my blog, Mama Chirps :)

I have to post this recipe, mostly for future reference, because it was awesome! Not to mention, it was paleo AND vegan, too. I decided to experiment today and ventured outside of the normal old smoothie box, and came up with a healthy Chocolate Banana Green Smoothie.

Bloody Marys – A Diverse Cocktail for This Memorial Weekend

By Audrey van Petegem, Chief Editor

Who knew that it was an American bartender, working at a bar in Paris in the roaring 20′s, that would come up with the iconic American drink that is the Bloody Mary.

Traditionally, the Bloody Mary is made with vodka, tomato juice, Tabasco sauce, Worcestershire sauce, lemon juice and garnished with a lime; all served in a tall glass. This cocktail has come a…

By Audrey van Petegem, Senior Editor

If you are a fan of the Mad  Men show, then you know that the era’s drink of choice was the cocktail – and not just one… Set in the 60′s in NYC, the era romanticized the Rat Pack’s image of a bottomless drink and a smoke, a vice for each hand.

Forget about the…

Do you have bananas that are about to go bad?  If so, don’t toss them out.  They are perfect for making banana muffins or bread.  In fact, they can even be be turning brown.  These muffins are not only easy to make but they are very moist and tasty.  The crumb topping was fantastic on top of the muffins even some of mine my muffins didn’t come out looking pretty.  I wanted to make something that was a bit different than the traditional banana bread recipe.
