Many parents often times pressure their children to start potty training their child before they are fully ready. Potty training before your child is ready can cause unnecessary stress for both you and your toddler. With all three of my kids, I waited until they were ready to potty train before I even attempted it. A…Continue

Having two children myself, I can safely say that no two children are exactly alike. In fact, mine are about as opposite as can be. My daughter loved pacifiers and was addicted to hers until age 3; my son had used a pacifier about 5 times total his first couple of weeks after birth and decided it was just not his cup of tea. My daughter was a very…Continue

One of the best ways to develop relationships and build confidence is to have fun together as a family. I just discovered there is a month long celebration aimed at that very thing, strengthening families and building healthy, confident kids. National Family Month is exactly what it sounds like, a celebration of family. It runs annually from Mother's Day to Father's Day.
An easy way to have fun with your kids is to remember what you enjoyed when you were their age and then do it…Continue

My 4 year old is still fighting his fever, my 6 year old is full of energy and I'm fighting a cough, sore throat and swollen glands. There were a few St Patty's Day events I wanted to check out today, but from the neck up, I don't feel well at all. Usually, I would type in my symptoms, but I don't event want to know what a Google search would say could be wrong with me (I'm staying away from WebMD). Damn it! Being sick really…Continue

One of the challenges I have faced in my journey to be green, healthy and fit is in the area of cooking. If you have read my posts before, you know about my aversion to cooking. It’s one of those necessary evils I suppose, even though I am what you might call “kitchen challenged”. Don’t like cooking or baking, but I can clean like a champ!
My husband is, quite fortunately for me, the kind of guy who will eat pretty much whatever I put in front of him. Even if he doesn’t like it so…Continue

Today I headed out to Jetty Island with Isabel to meet up with a mommy play group. Jetty Island is a long strip of land in the bay off the coast of Everett, WA. I've heard from a few co-workers that it was a great place to bring your kids but I never made the journey before. For one, it would have been just Izzy and I and it's not as fun without other kids to join in. Since The North shore mommy play group planned to met there it was the perfect opportunity to check it out.…Continue

It was a red minivan, actually. We had just pulled into the driveway from picking Troy up from preschool. There were several neighbor kids walking home from school across the street. As all four of my kids and the two pups spilled out of our car, a couple of the kids asked if they could see the puppies. Jason and I walked across the street with the pups. I looked back towards the house and Derek and Troy had climbed the tree at the end of the driveway. Everyone seemed so safe.…Continue

I just have to share this. Do you know those motorized rides you see at the supermarket or the mall? They look like little cars or boats that you have to pop in some quarters for them to start. They just rock back and forth and play sounds. Until today Izzy has been deathly afraid of them. Continue

Cheers! Summer is officially here. And based on the weather here, summer didn't want anyone to forget it.
It was H-O-T all week.
After weeks of back and forth warm-and-then-cold-rainy-days, summer is here full throttle. And I'm excited that our tall, seeding grass will die back soon, so I can perhaps breathe clearly again. Sniff sniff.

We all go through phases with our children's diets. (Heck, I go through phases in my own diet as my tastes change throughout the month. So what can I expect?) But kids are notorious for being "picky," "difficult" and "plain."
And truth be told, my kids have thus far been truly amazing little eaters. My first has very openly tasted foods most of her life, leaning towards a less-interested stage when she hit four years of age, but nonetheless, discovering for herself what she truly…
