Homemade Cinnamon Rolls

Yes, I said cinnamon rolls. Warm, homemade ones. I know I've been bad and haven't posted in a long while (sorry! I went back to work last week), so I thought sharing this lovely recipe would make up for it. These are not your traditional, Cinnabon-style, achingly-sweet type of cinnamon roll. But they're delicious just the same- and we like them even better.

I came across… Continue

The Sweetest Sound

Having a baby heightens things. Things like.....your emotions. Things that once may not have phased you, now leave you speechless. Conversations that you were once able to "leave at the table", now leave you seething...and sometimes contemplating friendships. Compassion turns into empathy turns into "What if that was MY child?" turns into tears. I found myself at the latter end of this spectrum last night.

At approximately 8:30 I received a phone call from my honey's aunt asking us… Continue

My Addiction

When a smoker decides to stop smoking they remove cigarettes from their lives. When an alcoholic decides to stop drinking they remove alcohol from their lives. The first thing these addicts do is remove all the cigarettes or alcohol from their home.

When a person has an eating disease they cannot remove all food from their lives. Food cannot just be removed and avoided. At least three times a day we need to face our addiction, making sure to take just a little bit of our "drug". Can… Continue

Looking for a way to help

If you've been searching for a way to help children living in countries such as Vietnam, Ghana, Haiti or India Dillon International would love to work with you. With the recent changes in the economy it is becoming harder to help the children across the world who count on us. We are looking for people who are interested in doing anything from helping to spread the word about Dillon and OrphanCare International to people willing to help plan a fundraiser in their area. Let us know if you're… Continue

New school year, new Mom outlook

The end of summer … the beginning of a new school year. For so many of us these are exciting times. I still remember those feelings of Labor Day Weekends gone by when we couldn’t wait to wear our new clothes for the first day, regardless of the fact that it was still summer and our long sleeve shirts and corduroys would be a bit warm in a building with no air conditioning. It was about looking good, not feeling good!

Many years later, I still get that nervous feeling in my stomach.… Continue

College Bound Blues for Moms

It's August, let's talk about your child leaving for college. Yes, I know it brings up many feelings. One minute you're laughing with them at a Blue Light Special, the next minute you're dissolving into tears.

Leaving for college is a big transition for a family. For many parents it feels like a little death. In a way it is - death to the original family construct. Think about it, for years the focus has been researching prospective colleges, visiting them, talking about what… Continue

Growing up!

Growing up!

Izzy is 21 months old now and it seems like only yesterday when I found out I was pregnant! The day she arrived my life changed for the better as she brings us so much joy and happiness, a certain innocence that just makes you smile!

Izzy is a very independent little girl who likes to try and do things for herself, rather than have Mummy or Daddy do it for her! Always wanting to give it a go, even though most of the time she is just a bit too small and young.… Continue

Allowing kids Independence

I know the kids just started school but today was already picture day. My 8 year old daughter wanted her hair in a pony tail as she does everyday. She is very much the athletic one so of course that makes sense. I wanted so bad to just dictate that the pony tail was not an option today. I then decided that that would be a no-no. When she is older I will look back and remember how she was trying to find her niche, not the niche I wanted her to find. Of course there are some things that are just… Continue

A Working Mom's Business Banter

I have learned that in business, and in life, that "All is fair in love and war." What does this mean exactly? Well, if you must know, it traces back to John Lyly's "Euphues" (1598). The quote was "The rules of fair play do not apply in love and war." John was a Renaissance English poet and playwright and certainly a man ahead of his time in recognizing that there are many a people who do not play fair. I imagine that some of you who are reading this now may be cursing those who have wronged… Continue

2.4 children

On Sunday, husband turned to me and said -

"I was thinking last night, 2 kids are enough for us."

Unexpectedly my heart sunk.

Battle of the Blood... or just zip it Mother!

My mum arrived exactly a week ago and as always the rollercoaster has had as many highs as lows in the last 7 days and 5h09 min... I love her more than anything and she truly is my best friend. I have always had that sort of amazing relationship with her. The sort of relationship most my friends envied with passion. She is my confident and the shoulder to cry on, even miles away. We have always been able to tell her everything, I mean EVERYTHING. She knew all our little secrets as well as my… Continue

Alice-in-wonderland An interesting conundrum is posed below, in this article from London's TimesOnline:

Are children's books too depressing these days?

That question was broached to both a current and former UK children's laureate, and their answers come from…

Do you need a new book to read to your toddler?

I read the same books over and over and over and OVER to my toddler. I am now on a plight to find new material. This is one both Colton and I love. I think you will to. It's simple illustrations and meaningful message make it a fun read for both parent and toddler.

Are you a number?

Healthy years for Healthy kids

I have not been a member of mombloggersclub for that long, however I am so impressed by the amount of obviously very intelligent mom's who care about the health and future of their children. I read some blogs that are so thought provoking and new in concept. Others feel as if you are sitting next to that mom having a great cup of whatever. I am very happy and honored to have been invited to join this group of wonderful ladies.

On Love

Don’t worry, this is not a perving post although I am consistently perving. That’s for the record. You can expect me to ogle my eyes blind if ever a cute guy walks past or flash abs across my computer screen. But this is not about perving….not today, anyway. Maybe tomorrow.

Love is a very funny thing because it’s an all-encompassing emotion that can literally take over a person’s life and make all their decisions for them. For instance, you fall in love with a man/woman and you could… Continue
