Finally...a moment for mommy!!!!

So I haven't really had a chance to get on here... this is the reason for wanting to do this...I thought I might be able to take that time out for *me*... but I guess that doesn't happen for us moms?? Anywho so I'm still trying to lose some weight but it's not working so anyone with any tips I'd greatly appreciate them, lol. I mean I have been limiting my food intake but not so much to where it's detrimental to my health or anything. Im eating a pretty decent fruits, veggies, protein…

Shy Baby Chubba Cheeks

Two summers ago, these two little girls came unexpectedly into my life. Unexpected because I did NOT want to date anyone who had children. Not because of the children, I love kids. It's the other parent I have problems with and that messy situation is a little too much, so I thought. There's plenty of single childless men in the sea, right?

But.......the man upstairs had other plans (and isn't that JUST what I get for thinking that?).

I am glad he knows better than I,… Continue

Mom Things - Happy 4th of July (a wee bit early)!!!

It's Wednesday again. I have to admit this is one of those weeks where I

am wishing my life away. I will be out of town this weekend,

and most likely skipping on Flashback Friday (again). Try not to be too

disappointed. (winkety wink)

Hate to be all brief, because that's SO out of character for me, but I'm

uber-frazzled and just trying to keep my head above water.

Without any additional verbiage between here and there, I give you the

Mom… Continue

A Letter to My 20-Something Self

I discovered a new blog this weekend called CassieBoorn.com. What really grabbed me was the "20-Something Self Letters" category, which includes letters written by women to their younger twenty-something selves. The letters are filled with wisdom and advice only women in the advanced ages of thirty or forty can dispense. Cassie also has another category labeled "56 Things To Do Before I’m 25" where she lists "Buy a pair of Uggs" as her #22 thing to do, but we won't hold that against… Continue

Oh my, Hump Day

Today started off so well but chaos has begun breaking out and it's not

yet noon! My daughter is bouncing off the walls at an alarming rate and

she managed to knock over a bowl of chips, not once, but twice in a

matter of 5 minutes. When she knocked it over the first time, I had to

get out the broom and dustpan (the vacuum is broken) and put in a

little good old fashioned elbow grease to try and get all of the little

pieces off of the rug and into the bowl I was… Continue

Suggested Reads for Young Adults

Last week, I ran a contest and asked people to share their recommendations for young adult books. Wow! Did I get a lot. Like most people, I take personal recommendations more seriously than hype, so thanks to my commenters for taking the time to share your most-favored-status books.

These haven't been reviewed on my Ink Spells blog, but I've put reading levels and Common Sense Media ratings on them, when…

My First Trip To Alaska... and my dad's King Salmon

My dad just got back from his fishing trip in Alaska. My grandpa owns a few fishing lodges in Ketchikan, Alaska. I can still remember my first trip to Alaska. My dad always told me that I was allowed to go when I turned the age of 10. I think he was pulling a number out of his ass at the time, but you are fishing in the ocean…

King of the Hill?

We got three little kittens last week. They were supposed to be barn cats but they got here before the barn was built. The barn should be built by the fall, so in the meantime the kittens are living on our back deck. It has nice outdoor furniture and is protected by the rain. A pretty nice place to hang out if you are a little furry… Continue

Pig Scramble

As most of you know, the kids and I spent three entire, long days at our local country fair while Dominic was away on his Scotland trip. Saturday was Farmer's Day where there were all kinds of activities to participate in such as team penning, wild cow milking, calf scramble, boot scramble, egg toss, etc. Bryce was able to participate in the…

A quick Update ....

We were in the Hem/onc clinic again yesterday for Julia’s lab check. The procedure is quick and painless … for most … but it sets fear in my sould each month. I am guessing Julia is feeling the same way because she promptly passed out after the fingerstick and blood draw. Yup. Green, pale and gray … then slid right out of her chair. So the visit ended up a bit longer…
