Cardio Calories: Effective for Fat Loss?

"How accurate are the calories burned on a treadmill? It is hard for me to reconcile that when I was doing a longer cardio workout it would say I burned 500 calories and now when

I do the short burst intervals for 15-20 minutes it says I only burned 160 calories. A few people told me the treadmill reading is wrong anyway. What do you think? Thanks, K "

"This is a great question!

More thoughts on PPD

More thoughts on PPD

I have learned through my ND that I often stress my adrenal glands, and when I do that I crave sugar and caffeine, am in a constant state of anxiety and cannot sleep. To “deal with this” I tend to eat less food and more sugar and to drink coffee at all hours of the day. This in turn increases my anxiety and makes it harder to sleep. The first time this happened was after I moved with my 11-month-old daughter. Our second move since her birth.

Shortly after the move… Continue

Some Thing I'm Afraid Of...

My daughter was due in mid February. She was born two months early. My intelligent mind tells me it wasn’t my fault – I did nothing to make this happen and today, she is healthy and strong. My intelligent mind can reason. My emotional heart can’t forgive. I know it isn’t rational but there it is.

I was not able to protect her when she needed it most. So perhaps I may overindulge a bit now in my tendency to control her environment. (I’m sorry but those grapes really, really DO need to… Continue

I made it onto Alltop!

I'm pretty excited that I'm on Alltop.com now. Even if I am at the end of a very long list. It still feels cool.

A.K.A. "Blogger"

I recently found out that my in-laws read my blog.

My husband was over at his dad's house and helped them set-up their new lap top.

He wanted to show them all of the 'fun' things that were out there and he put my blog in their Favorites section.

He shared this thinking it was fun. And that's sweet. Really.

But now I find that when I want to post something about family 'stuff' that REALLY bugs me, I second guess myself.

Now I'm wondering,...should I go forward and… Continue

Relationships, Marriage, and Gaining or Losing Weight

An Iowa Avenue member, Julie, and her husband are engaged in a Domestic Weight Loss War, meaning that for one month, they are competing with one another to literally see who will lose the most weight.

After reading her story, I became quite curious about the issues of couples and weight loss and/or gain. So I did some research to…

Introduction

Gee, thanks to everyone who has so warmly welcomed me to the blogging world! You are all very gracious and I am excited about sharing on here.

I'll start off with a little about myself and my daughter.

I am a single mother (though I am in a serious relationship with a guy who has a son). I work as a teacher at a middle school here in Ohio. I love Ohio (HUGE BUCKEYE fan), but I hate the cold weather. I enjoy watching my daughter play whatever sport she is playing at the… Continue

Estrogen Dominance may play a role in Post Partum Depression

Estrogen Dominance and PPD

Estrogen dominance and depression:

According to Sherrill Sellman depression is a symptom made worse by Estrogen Dominance..

Dr. Sellman, page 99, “After delivery, the placenta-derived progestereone is suddenly gone. Since the adrenals are the primary source of progesterone at that time, if they are exhausted there would be insufficient progesterone producesd. Remember that progesterone is a natural anti-depressan.

Many women experience depression… Continue

Are you working the web?

Work and Web Women is my podcast blog, but I like to think of it as a podClass series because I created it to teach other online entrepreneurs how to improve their websites, find multiple streams of income online, work from home and do other things of that nature. Being more of a typer than a talker, I initially intended to use this site primarily as an information library for women entrepreneurs, with… Continue

Butt of Jokes

I have teenagers living in my house. If you are at all familiar with this irrational and often irritating species (homo smartaleckus), you are offering me your condolences right now.

You also know that these creatures are embarrassed by the very existence of their parents. This is a perfectly natural part of the maturation process. I can remember, as a teen, thinking my parents were utterly clueless idiots. But my folks never provided me with the kind of proof of parental derangement… Continue
