Should your son play football?

Should you encourage your son to play football? There are many benefits for boys. Self esteem, self confidence, body building, leadership, being a team player, potential college scholarships and most importantly to the boys, admiration from the girls. But the costs too, can be high. High for your child and high for you as a parent. Football has a higher risk of injury than any other sport. For preteens the dangers from such a contact sport are especially great. Their young bones have not fully…See More

Word of the week game

WORD OF THE WEEK GAME - IT'S FUN AND ANYONE CAN PLAY!As a writer I have always loved words, finding just the right one to best express an idea or describe a scene. I wanted my children to develop a love for words too. Our family's Word of The Week game was the answer. It was fun, easy and the children loved it. Here's how it worked:Every Monday morning I posted on the refrigerator door a 3x5 card with a word and it's definition on it. Throughout the week we all used that word as often as…See More

Good News

GREAT NEWS: Yesterday the Senate Appropriations Committee passed a ban on domestic horse slaughter as part of the FY2015 Agriculture Appropriations bill. This ban prohibit the USDA from using federal funds to inspect horsemeat intended for human consumption, effectively banning domestic horse slaughter and protecting the public from toxic horse meat. If the House passes a similar ban, this ban would last for the duration of its parent bill, the FY2015 Agriculture Appropriations bill.Read more…See More

After Christmas Poem

Posted on January 1, 2015 at 4:07pm 0 Comments

'Twas the day after Christmas

And down at the store,

Shoppers were searching

For bargains galore.

A sweater for auntie.

They're both at half price.

Some came with purpose,

Toting a big sack,

With all the spare gifts

That they had brought back.

Gift certificates

Were cashed in with glee,

Which brought more goodies

For you and for me.

But smartest of all

Were… Continue
