Familiarity Breeds Contempt

Posted on June 13, 2008 at 11:30am 1 Comment

I recently blogged about Fox News' disrespectful treatment of Michelle Obama and while my blog was an initial gut reaction thing, I started thinking about the real reasons people think it's acceptable to disrespect public figures. I think the change started happening right around the time that the… Continue

Mommas Don't Let Your Sons Grow Up to be...Men?!

Posted on May 30, 2008 at 3:30pm 2 Comments

As I read this article, I could feel my blood starting to boil. Parents at Wright State University have created a "mentoring" program for black male students that is essentially a hand-holding program for parents who can't let go or can't trust their sons enough to be men and handle their business. If you have done your job right, parents, you shouldn't have to follow… Continue

31 Day Comment Challenge: Becoming a Better Blog Citizen

Posted on May 7, 2008 at 8:00pm 0 Comments

On my library blog, I've been participating in the 31 Day Comment Challenge and it has been inspirational and enlightening.

Normally, I blow thematic challenges off or I lose interest after a couple of days because of my ability to become absolutely and totally obsessed by nothing at all. Or, what my sister calls, adult onset ADH-shiny! However, this challenge has… Continue

OMG! Is that really me?

I look in the mirror every day when I get dressed, so I don't know why I never noticed how incredibly out of shape I've gotten. Actually, I think I did notice but simply chose not to acknowledge it. Today, though, I can't ignore the fact that I have gained weight. I think, at this point, I weigh more than I did when I was pregnant with twins. Anyway, I truly resolve to do something about it.

I don't know how I got to this point. Actually, I think I do. It's a combination of my job… Continue

New Girl on the Block

Posted on April 29, 2008 at 10:30pm 0 Comments

Let me introduce myself. I'm a wife and a mother by choice and an archivist and an librarian by training. I've been married for 13 years to a wonderful man who has taught me that marriage is the hardest job I will ever love. I'm the mother of five children who bring me so much joy--I tell them all the time that I firmly believe that G-d handpicked each one of them and placed them in my life.

I'm an archivist and reference librarian at a small Catholic university in an even smaller… Continue

Hi there from The Girlz Korner in upstate New York where you'll find light, witty and rather entertaining articles on every topic imaginable from The Little Black Dress to Making Whoopie. So if you get a chance to kick back and exhale, if only for a brief moment ... come on over and see me some time.

Hi! I have been reading about your 31 Day Comment Challenge and like you, I am bad about leaving comments, but very good at reading blogs. Time to take some inspiration and maybe work on some commenting.

Heh, there really isn't much to wish for in addition to having 4 under 5. I had 3 under 4, and I wished for a whole lot of things I'm not proud of!
