I am so happy to have found this group. I am an organizing fanatic. My son the other day asked to use my label maker so he could organize his Star Wars toys. I was so proud!

Hi all! I'm new here to the organizing group. I'm Kim. I definitely need to work on my organizational skills. There is never enough time in the day!

I have been searching high and low for software that will comprehensively help me organize my family - schedules, cleaning lists, medical things, etc. (we have our own business, so it's an extra challenge). I found a couple of programs online but quite frankly they look cheesy. Please, does anyone have any suggestions??

How do you organize the clothes your kids have grown out of? Boxes? Drawers? What's the best way to store them? Help!

Maintaining kids toys is a real issue. There are toys that age wise, they've grown out of, but continue to play with; you want to hang on to certain toys for the next baby; there are tiny, itty-bitty pieces ALL over the place. So what to do?

1. Contain--Placing items in a container helps to distinguish what you've got and how much of something. Put like items together in a container and no more than two categories of items in one. A container is anything that holds something, so a bookcase is a container, a dresser is a container. Be certain to leave some growing room. You don't want to fill a container to the top and jam pack clothing into a dresser. Leave room to grow and always eliminate something when you bring in something new...that helps to avoid clutter.

2. Rotate--Put half of the toys that are currently in your child's bedroom and/or playroom in large plastic, labeled containers. Place in the attic for the time being. Take them out in a month, fill the container(s) with the toys currently in the room, and voila, it's like a holiday! Your child has a fresh set of toys to play with.

3. Recycle--Consider taking "used" toys to a consignment shop or children's store where they give you credit for your items, which can be used to purchased more age appropriate toys. Or, organize a toy swap with friends (you can do this with clothing too!)

4. Reduce--For your child's next birthday, consider two things on the invitation: Requesting that instead of a toy, each guest bring a book. Or, have each guest bring a book that will be donated to a local organization (for example, the local Ronald MacDonald House). This gets children focused on reading and/or giving.

I'm going to repost an article I wrote for a website about organizing toys/kids rooms on my MBC page. Maybe it will be helpful to some of you!

My secret dream job is to be a professional organizer. If I could organize other people's closets and nurseries and pantries all day -- ahhh... I would love it! I'm no expert yet - not enough experience (outside of my own home!) but would love to chat with others about the love of organizing!
