Autism Group

Do any of you have a family member on the autism spectrum? I have an 11 yr old with Asperger's Syndrome and would love to connect with other parents who write about their experiences.

Hi! I just joined the group. I have an 8-year-old son with Asperger's. I blog about the gluten-free/casein-free diet, sensory issues and just general family chaos at www.threechannels.com!

Hello! I have a 9 year old son that falls on the Autism Spectrum, well they say PDD-NOS (Pervasive Developmental Disorder). He is the apple of my eye and my hero! He has been through so much and still has a positive attitude. I am thrilled to have found this group. I haven't really had any luck finding a support group in my area.

It took Jake a long time too. Does he use the toilet at home? If he uses it at home but not at school, it could be a bunch of different reasons. Is he able to communicate that he has to go? Does he have a TSS or aid with him to help?

When Jake was in first grade, he was in an autistic support classroom and the teacher really helped us by scheduling his TSS to take him to the bathroom every hour (it was a private one stall bathroom). We did the same at home. When he went in the toilet we made a huge fuss over it, which made him happy. When my boyfriend (he's been in Jake's life since he was 2) would have to pee he would take Jake in there with him to show him and encourage him to go as well.

To be honest, I dont know if Jake was just lazy or what, but he knew what to do.Once we sure that he knew, we put him in underwear and told him that if he wets himself, we will turn the computer off. Jake doesn't have to be anywhere near the computer or even want to play on it, but threatening to turn it off seemed to do the trick. He hardly had an accident after that! But if he did, we followed through and shut it off.

Hugs to you! I know how hard it is. Jake was 7 when he finally used the toilet all the time. Maybe he just wasn't ready until then. I wish you lots of luck!

My son responded well with ABA, In fact he still gets ABA therapy. Good luck, I'm sure he'll do great with it!

Hi every one! I'm Jessie, mom to Jaina (NT) and Jayce (HFA). Jayce is 4.5 years old and was diagnosed a month before his 3rd birthday. We're about to start ABA soon!
