I love blog hops. You add your blog url and boom, you get tons of visitors to your blog.

Or, do you?

Blog hops are a great way to meet other bloggers and to let others know you exist. I'm just not so sure that they hold the same great traffic source that they used to.

When I sign up for a blog hop, I make it my mission to visit (at least) half the bloggers on the list. There have been times that I have made it my mission to visit every blogger on the list, even when there was over fifty bloggers.  Not once has that paid off for me.

Maybe it's because there are so many more bloggers out there now then when it was just us old school bloggers, and it's just too hard to visit everyone. Or, bloggers have become too caught up on their own blog to pay back that favor when someone visits thier blog from the blog hop.

It's truly sad to sign up for a blog hop that has over a hundred bloggers signed up and you visit the hostess (usually required) and she only has ten comments. When I see that, I know that no matter how many blogs I visit, I'm probably not getting even a quarter visits back.

Have I given up on blog hops?

Not yet.

I'm hoping that some day I'll find that perfect blog hop where everyone takes the time to visit every hopeful blogger on that list. Maybe, we will all become friends too. That's when my faith will be truly renewed towards the benefit of signing up for a  blog hop.

I also believe that cookies can fall from the sky if you wish really hard.

I've never tried a blog hop. I do try to visit and comment on at least a couple of other blogs every day that I'm online. I only actually follow blogs that interest me in some way, though. It feels like a waste to follow a blog I have no interest in when there are so many I could enjoy. I guess I'd rather people follow me who feel the same way. They find something in my blog that inspires or intrigues them in some way or another. Just being a number doesn't really enrich my life or theirs. Getting feedback in the way of comments is priceless to anyone. If you are participating in a "blog hop" wanting comments, you should be willing to leave a good number of comments yourself. Set a minimum number and POST, ladies! It's rude to participate without reciprocating.

I never heard of a blog hop. I'm pretty new to blogging. I will look into this. Thank you!

Even a year ago I was getting a great response to blog hops and my goal was to visit and comment on an easy 5 to 10. These days, I hardly gain a follower and get very few comments. Still, I find a great blog now and then that makes it worth it!

I love blog hops, the best part is fining all the different posts to read. I love reading about how others see the world, what they come up with as in DYI projects and cooking, I have a folder full of recipes I want to try. I hope to someday have my own blog hop, but for now I will just keep reading.

I think blog hops are great for new bloggers like me. It makes other people know that your blog is out there. This week I will be co-hosting my 1st blog hop with the Aloha! Friday Blog hop team. I'm hoping that the turn out will be what I am expecting.

I do think that blog hops are pretty good.  Though, it is irritating when you visit a blog and that blog doesn't visit back.  It's all about growing our blogs.  There are some really good blogs out there.  I will continue to visit blogs that I like and hope that those blogs will continue visiting back on mines.

I haven't found blog hops to be great at creating traffic. But I really think that's because of the huge number of blogs out there nowadays. I also think many people just leave their links and don't bother to visit at least a few of the blogs on there. It has to be a 2 way street or it won't work! But I do like blog hops for discovering new blogs.

I totally agree! Well said Keisha. I find that these days a lot of people are wanting to increase their numbers. I love when I come across a blog which I can relate to, or that inspires me. So very well said.

I think blog hops are nice when you go on and actually visit other people's blogs. When and if I post an entry on a hop I normally visit a few other blogs.  I do think if you are participating in a hop it doesn't mean all of the sudden you have to follow each blog on the hop, but stopping by and leaving a few comments is always nice for anyone! :)

I stopped doing blog hops for that very reason.  I was following the rules but it seemed like very few others were :(

I wish there were hops by genre that would be great
